Welcome guys,

Thanks to God, with this blog is finally created. This blog is inspired by my experience as the beginner of Network Administrator. At first time I learn how Cisco Router Works, but this is very confusing. Without basic knowledge about unix and dbase this is very hard.
First Time I configure the Router AS5200, it was 2 books and a dozen of document from Cisco I red, and took me about 3 months to have the Router works.
After the first success, I become more confident and try to understand how the command is affect to the routers itself.
The main key is learn and learn, then braveness to try, don't be give-up, asking someone who experienced.
Thanks to Cisco Documentation it was wonderful help.

To you all guys, never mind you are new or expert practice will make perfect.. so keep practice and practice... again thanks for visiting my blog my you satisfied with its content.

Meet Cisco's New CFO

Frank Calderoni, who officially becomes CFO this week, talks about his new role and his confidence in the company

February 12, 2008

Last August, John Chambers announced that Frank Calderoni would assume the CFO position upon Dennis Powell's planned retirement. On February 15, Calderoni will officially become Cisco's CFO.

During his past four years at Cisco, Calderoni has served as SVP of Customer Solutions Finance and, before that, vice president of Worldwide Sales Finance. Recently he took a few minutes to speak with News@Cisco about his new role, share his confidence in the company, and offer a glimpse into his personal interests.

Can you give us a basic overview of your responsibilities as chief financial officer?

Frank Calderoni: I'm excited to be taking on the role of CFO. Building on the success of Dennis Powell and Larry Carter, our former CFOs, I believe my experience will continue to drive the evolution of Finance as a strategic business partner at Cisco.

In addition to the traditional Finance responsibilities of budgeting, compliance, and decision support as a part of Corporate Finance, our General Corporate Controller organization, Business Finance Operations, Customer Solutions Finance and Finance Operations functions, my job also provides oversight for a broad range of Treasury responsibilities. These include Tax, Enterprise Risk Management and Workplace Resources as well as our growing Cisco Capital organization.

You've played a key role in the evolution of Finance over the past four years. What are you most proud of?

Frank Calderoni: As SVP of our Customer Solutions Finance organization, I was able to drive profitable growth, disciplined decision making, and transparency in our reporting.

I'm very proud of my team's partnership with the Sales and Service organizations to create combined product and service offerings that are designed to increase top-line revenue, maintain bottom-line profitability while establishing a stronger, ongoing relationship with our partners and customers to achieve their business goals.

I'm also proud of the work of the Emerging Market Council, in which I played a key role. This council identified the opportunity for Cisco to invest in the innovation economy in Emerging Markets. The Council continues to meet regularly to determine ongoing strategy and ensure faster and better decisions designed to shape demand and accelerate growth for years to come. In addition to the Emerging Markets Council, I've participated in the Service Provider Council, which continues to drive the strategy for our very successful SP business globally.

Is Cisco's financial model robust enough to weather market turbulence?

Frank Calderoni: I have the utmost confidence in Cisco's financial model. Our vision of the industry, differentiated strategy, and ability to execute are working well. For those areas that we can control, we should be very optimistic of our ability to achieve our target business results—both in the short and long term.

In Q2 FY'08, we generated $2.4 billion in cash from operations, our 12th consecutive quarter of cash generation above $2 billion, which speaks to the continued quality of our financial model. We are better positioned than our competitors to leverage this financial strength to withstand and take advantage of market transitions to deliver the network as the platform for the next wave of productivity and collaboration.

What will be your areas of focus for the next 90 days?

Frank Calderoni: First and foremost, I will continue to be committed to maximizing shareholder value. My team and I will stay focused on ensuring profitable growth, disciplined decision making, leveraging our financial health and maintaining the level of integrity and transparency that Cisco is known for.

I will also be focused on maintaining a balanced portfolio of initiatives for Cisco. Finance plays a key role in partnering with the business to drive long-range and short-term profitable growth by ensuring Cisco's investment priorities are reviewed as a portfolio versus a series of unrelated activities. This will allow Cisco to tap into markets that represent $1 billion to $10 billion in opportunities over the next three to five years.

Pengalaman saya, hal ini sering terjadi bila ada kabel console yang
terhubung dengan router, sementara komputer di ujung lain kabel tsb. belum
menyala atau bahkan tidak ada sama sekali. Biasanya masalahnya bisa diatasi
dengan mencabut kabel console nya, atau sekedar memastikan bahwa komputernya
sudah menyala (tidak perlu sampai selesai booting, yang penting ada sinyal
listriknya).

Mudah-mudahan bisa membantu.

Terima kasih diberi tambahan info.

Saya itu sekarang independent dan mencoba menempatkan product dan service Cisco sesuai porsi-nya.
Supaya kita semua dapat belajar juga dari Pakar-pakar, Petinggi-petinggi dan Advance Users Cisco..
Bukan mau menjadi "Devil Advocate" beneran-nya, lho.... :)

Dan hal lain.., supaya Cisco juga mau Buat Research Center juga di Indonesia.
Saya sedih ketika Vietnam terpilih menjadi Research Center Cisco. Kenapa bukan kita..?
Padahal penjualan Cisco di Indonesia Angka-nya cukup fantastis, dan naik-nya dari tahun-ke-tahun tergolong tinggi. Jadi...?? Kenapa...??

Apalagi saya itu sudah jualan Cisco disini beberapa tahun sebelum Cisco Indonesia buka kantor.
Bahkan, saya juga sudah jualan Wireless Aironet kurang lebih 2 tahun sebelum Cisco akhirnya meng-akuisisi. Sehingga menjadi Cisco Aironet.
Tapi ketika Saya pegang Intellitactics sebagai Enterprise Security Management...(ESM), untung Cisco beli MARS, product Jerman.... :)
Sehingga sekarang Intellitactics bisa menjadi ESM Solution di Quadrant 4 oleh Gartner beberapa tahun ini (he..he.. ngga ada hubungannya, ya.... :p )

Mengenai Scheme service Cisco itu, mungkin perlu kiranya kita melihat kepentingan dari sisi customer-nya juga.
Masih banyak Customer yang ngga tahu, mereka sedang dapat service apa.
Technical, Advance, atau apa...?
Dibeberapa kontrak support, nyaris ngga ada Partner yang nyebut-in ada SmartNet, Technical, atau Advance Service, apalagi ada "CSSP"-nya....
Malah ada partner yang meniru scheme Support Cisco tersebut, dan membuat metoda dan biaya, bisa jadi lebih murah atau bisa jadi lebih mahal (ternyata...).
Walaupun sebenarnya mereka juga deg-deg-an di Audit oleh Cisco ke Kantornya.

Hal lain juga, dari Partner satu-ke- partner yang lain, metoda handling problem mereka ada perbedaan sedikit disana-sini, seperti tidak ada standarnya, sehingga wajar customer nanya, kan...?
Ini Support dari Cisco atau dari Partner? Walaupun sebenarnya 'menurut Cisco' sama saja bila pakai scheme CSSP (untuk Gold Partner).
Tapi mereka ngga pernah dapat info itu.

Ada juga scheme, pokoknya "sekian persen dari harga Pricelist" per-annum dan service-nya ini.... dan itu....

Tentang CCIE..., ada keprihatinan Saya,
Jumlah CCIE yang banyak juga ngga menjamin. Ternyata masih banyak CCIE yang gagal Lab.
Jadi mereka banyak hanya lulus Written saja.
Ketika ada Tender besar..., misalnya Tender KPU dulu..., tiba-tiba Saya merasa CCIE di Indonesia ada 40 orang lebih.... Ada sertifikat-nya..!!!
Bukan mengecilkan usaha dan status mereka, namun umunya pengalaman dengan perangkat-perangkat baru nyaris masih kurang.

Misalnya :
Customer : "Kalau Core Switch saya ada module NAM, IDS dan Content Engine-nya, bisa ngga Saya manage dari Satu System atau NMS Saya ?"

Si CCIE : "Duhh Pak..., konsep-nya Saya mengerti..., tapi Saya belum pernah megang fisik-nya...."
Customer : "Hhmmm..... "

Oh ya..., pengertian "Perangkat Baru" di Indonesia ini adalah yang "Baru Pertama Kali Masuk Indonesia". Bukan yang baru di-launching Cisco.

OK lah.... semoga semua kita bisa lebih maju memahami produsen ini.
Dan mudah-mudah-an yang dulu punya cita-cita punya Lab Bersama disini, dapat terwujud juga....

Supaya kita di-lirik oleh Cisco juga karena punya Potensi 'LAIN'..., bukan hanya sebagai Potensi Pasar Hardware dan Certificate-nya saja...
Kalau perlu kita tanya-keennn...kembali, Kualitas CSR mereka ??
(CSR=Corporate Social Responsibility)

Gua mau coba ngebantu jelasin Cisco punya service, karena dulu gaji gua
datengnya lewat Service ini :). Jadi gua berutang ngejelasin.

Cisco itu punya 3 jenis services :

a. Technical Service, yg paling dasar
b. Advanced Service, yg timnya Himawan
c. Advisory Service, service yg di awang2 menurut gua.

TS, itu adalah service basicnya Cisco, yg supportnya itu dihanddle sama
Cisco TAC, yg engineernya itu kita kenal dengan TAC engineer.
Mereka ini hanya kerja untuk SOLVE operational problem, jadi kalau ada
issue di operating network baru mereka coba bantu. Bukan masalah design
ataupun minta IOS yg stabil.
Service ini dijual ama Cisco dalam 2 bentuk yaitu SmartNet dan Cisco
Shared Support Program atau disingkat CSSP.

SmartNet ini adalah Direct Contract between Cisco dengan Customer walau
dibeli lewat partner.

Sehingga nantinya setelah dibeli, CUSTOMER bisa OPEN TAC case, download
software, ganti barang yg RUSAK krn operasional, atau minta update
software krn bug.

CSSP ini adalah Contract between Cisco dengan Gold-Silver Partner, untuk
perangkat2 yg dijual oleh Partner2 tersebut.
Kenapa dibilang shared, krn Partner Engineer punya kewajiban untuk
melakukan initial troubleshooting terlebih dahulu sebelum dibantu oleh
Cisco TAC. Jadi kedua belah pihak punya tanggung jawab.
Deliverablesnya antara CSSP dan Smartnet itu SAMA hanya yang ENTITLED itu
beda. Kalau SmartNet itu bisa langsung customer, kalau CSSP itu partner
walaupun servicenya partner itu eventually goes to customer.

Jadi kalau teman2 yang udah beli Cisco SmartNet, temen2 punya HAK untuk
punya LOGIN CCO yang lebih powerful dari Guest ACCESS doang :)
Kalau belum dapet loginnya, minta ke partner tempat beli SmartNetnya untuk
bikinin.

Kenapa seringnya GOLD partner suka Nakal tidak menjelaskan SmartNet ke
customer ? Krn by nature, SmartNet itu adalah Direct atr Cisco dan
Customer. Partner tidak dapet kebagian shared dari sini.
Beda dengan CSSP yang dimana Gold partner bisa mendapat shared dari sini.
Kalau kita jadi Gold partnerd what would you do to make more money?
Karena itu, CSSP hanya bisa untuk Gold / Silver krn mereka punya obligasi
untuk punya CCIE yang banyak biar bisa dibagi kerjaannya para TAC
engineer.

Dari internal back end sendiri, uang2 dari SmartNet itu sendiri sebagian
besar larinya adalah untuk Stok barang untuk RMA, dimana angkanya sangat
mencengangkan. Dan itu kalau sisi orang bisnis bilangnya UANG MATI.
Sisanya ya... untuk bayar gaji2 TAC engineer sama gaji gua dulunya...

Kalau Advance service, udah banyak dijelasin ama Om Himawan.
